The main objective of Pesquisa Operacional is to publish papers produced on Operational Research (OR) topics by the Brazilian scientific community, promoting its integration and the dissemination of the scientific knowledge generated within it. We also welcome papers of interest written in any other country of the world. Pesquisa Operacional publishes theoretical and applied papers relative to any of the sub-areas of OR, as well as bibliographical reviews on topics of interest and papers on the history and methodology of OR. Submitted papers must be original, not being in the process of evaluation for publication by any other periodical. Besides originality and relevance, it will be taken into account the quality of presentation (clarity, style and organization of the text) and the adequacy of the text to the interests of the readers of the journal. Submitted papers will be judged by at least two referees and the final decision will be communicated to the principal author by the Editor-in-Chief. Pesquisa Operacional will publish papers written preferably in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French. When submitting a manuscript the author(s) will be implicitly giving their rights to the Brazilian Operational Research Society (SOBRAPO) and saying that third parties rights are not being violated.
RULES OF SUBMISSION AND INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS Authors willing to submit their papers for publication in Pesquisa Operacional must send a word file with the manuscript by e-mail to horacio@lac.inpe.br or sobrapo@sobrapo.org.br. Alternatively, na electronic midia containing the text file can be sent to the Editor-in-Chief in the following addresses: SOBRAPO, Rua Mayrink Veiga, 32 - sala 601,CEP: 20090-050, Rio de Janeiro-RJ, Brazil or to Horacio Hideki Yanasse, INPE/LAC, Caixa Postal 515, São José dos Campos, SP, Brasil - CEP: 12201-970. The file should be accompanied by a letter of submission by the author (or authors). In this letter, the corresponding author must include his (her) mailing address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. The standards specified below must be rigorously observed. Non-compliance with the standards may cause considerable delays in the processing of the paper.
Content, Text Organization and Format The paper must be typed in Word for Windows 6.0 or newer version (font Times New Roman, single spacing). Margin specifications are as follows:
The text must be printed using a laser or ink jet printer in one side of A4 paper (210 x 297 millimeters). The pages must be numbered with a pencil on the reverse side; for this reason references must be made to sections and not to page numbers. Size and option for characters are as follows:
2. The first page shall receive only paper title, name (s) and origin (s) of author (s), abstracts and keywords. The title shall be centered and put below the first third of useful page height. This must be followed by two single spaces and the name of each author (without titles or positions), followed, in the next line, by the name of his (her) institution, all left justified but on the right half of the line. This page, only, admits a footnote containing data about authors, if they prefer to use this format. After two single spaces an abstract in the language of the text should be included, followed by two single spaces and an abstract in English. If the author's native language is Portuguese but the article is written in another language, the abstract in English must be followed by an abstract in Portuguese. Each abstract must contain no more than 150 words, which is the limit for publication in IFORS' IAOR. After each abstract three keywords will be provided in the same language. 3. The paper must begin with an introduction. Footnotes outside the first page are not permitted. Acknowledgements must not exceed 5 lines and must be placed after the main text, before the references. 4. Graphical objects should be incorporated into the text by the text editor. Objects made with several elements should be grouped. A functional alternative is to have them drawn with Indian ink on vegetable paper. In this case, the respective titles should be incorporated in each drawing and its location in the text must be clearly indicated. Use of shadowing is not recommended. Color printing is not supported. 5. Mathematical expressions must be numbered consecutively. Whenever possible, one must avoid notation that unnecessarily uses more than one line (use for example x/(y-l); exp (x)). If the paper is written in Portuguese, French or Spanish, commas should be used in decimal numbers instead of points. 6. References must be ordered in alphabetical order of the first author's last name. The citation in the text must contain name (s) and year of publication, abbreviated or not. Example: [AY92], or Altinkemer & Yu (1992). The following models should be used for papers published in journals (1), books (2), chapters contributed in edited books (3) and internal reports and theses (4):
